Album : Amina Annabi
Born in 1962 in Carthage, Tunisia, Amina is an international star. She has recorded in Arabic, French and English, sang with artists such as Afrika Bambaata and Yasuaki Shimizu, and has received the prestigious "Prix Piaf" for best female singer. She was also invited by Peter Gabriel to be included in the 1991 remake of John Lennon's "Give Peace A Chance," during the Gulf War. Here career has also included acting and dance. Her music is a blend of styles, including jazz, pop, rock, rap and several other genres, but it is generally informed by the Arabic Malouf tradition she learned from her mother, who was also a musician.
Top tracks are C'est Gai, Lirrilli, Dis-Moi Pourquoi (Hip Hop Mix) & Men Jibb is fantastic. The rest of the album is very good, mixing the usual Arabic & French, this time around an English track is included.
Her beautiful, powerful voice & the music blend to create an indescribable mood that tends to make your mind ponder things deep inside. Definitely one of my favorite albums & well worth the money I spent. Album : Amina Annabi Label : Polygram Year : 1999

Anour Brahem Trio "Astrakan Cafe"
Anouar Brahem : oud / Barbaros Erkأƒآ¶se : clarinet / Lassad Hosni : bendir, darbouka Aube rouge أƒآ Grozny / Astrakan Cafأƒآ© (1) / The Mozdok's Train / Blue Jewels / Nihawend Lunga / Ashkabad / Halfaouine / Parfum de Gitane / Khotan / Karakoum / Astara / Dar es Salaam / Hija pechref / Astrakan Cafأƒآ© (2)< Tunisian oud virtuoso Anouar Brahem counts as one of ECM's most important "discoveries" of the last decade. After his highly successful trans-cultural recording "Thimar", he returns to a more purely Middle Eastern music on "Astrakan Cafأƒآ©", with the trio that has been his first priority for several years. The improvisational exchanges between Brahem, clarinettist Barbaros Erkأƒآ¶se and percussionist Lassad Hosni are exceptionally fluid, and the atmospheres that they create by turns mysterious, hypnotic, dramatic...

Mamdouh Bahri "African Flame"
This fourth recording explores the meeting of Eastern and Western musics in their popular and known forms. The balance of jazz with Eastern traditional influences is marked by a large amount of improvisation (Istikhbar). Traditional oriental rhythms (binary - Ouahda Saguira, Baladi, etc.; ternary - Selsla, M'dawar Houzi, Daraj, etc.; odd - Samaï Thakil) and the Afro-Mediterranean melodies are inextricably interwoven with jazz harmonies, while Arab musical forms (Douleb, Touchayah, Samaï) infuse the jazz to create an explosive a new sound.
