Essouira Festival "GNAWA ,Music of The world "
< UNIQUE FESTIVAL"
Once again the Festival of Essaouira, with its music, culture and seminars, brings together traditional and contemporary perspectives of Morocco with those of the rest of the world. Since its creation in 1998 it has inspired a unique and multi-faceted cultural exchange. At the heart of the event is the mystical tradition of Gnawa music with all its magical diversity. However, the Festival of Essaouira also draws on other cultures and artistic traditions with symposiums and debates, exhibitions, literature and poetry. Essaouira invites musicians from all over the world. As well as Jazz,Rock, Pop and traditional music from distant cultures the festival also offers new discoveries. Last year the Malian hunters gave us their mesmerising dances. This year it is the turn of the Capoiera, mystical dancers from Brazil. The spirit of the Festival is based on a concept of cross fertilisation of ideas within a rich variety of musical encounters. This spirit offers an extraordinary experience for the public which has been coming in ever greater numbers over the past three years. click on the photo to go directly to http://www.festival-gnaoua.co.ma/ |

Fez Festival of World Sacred Music - annual festival of the sacred music of monotheist religions, including Christianity, Judaism, Islam, and Sufism. - annual festival of the sacred music of monotheist religions, including Christianity, Judaism, Islam, and Sufism. Dialogues of Civilizations "To many contemporary thinkers, our world is entering a new paradigm where divisions between men extend beyond societal borders into the realm of cultural ideologies.
From such a statement, one can expect either the best or the worst: A future of conflict or peace.
"Since its inception, the Fes Festival of World Sacred Music has been working towards a path to peace, a forum for artisic expression, diversity of thought and spirituality. A place where the peoples of the world unite and interact, in an open dialogue, about universal values wich is defined by the preservation of freedom. This remains the core mission of the Festival and one of its most urgent goals"

THE "FESTIVAL DE L'IMAGINAIRE"
Created in 1997 by the Maison des Cultures du Monde and held each year for two months in March and April, the "Festival de l'Imaginaire" concentrates the efforts of several institutions from Paris, the Paris area and Europe in the field of world cultures. As an open stage for peoples and their most precious or least-known forms of expression, the "Festival de l'Imaginaire" has defined its programming policy in terms of exploration, discovery and revelation, and hopes to keep on arousing the spectator's curiosity.
Whether academic or folk, traditional or contemporary, minimalist or sophisticated, the various events of the "Festival de l'Imaginaire" are performed for the most part for the first time in France. A few of the events involve return performances, after an absence of a few years, either to satisfy the desire for a new generation of spectators or to discover new talents. Thus during the festival, grand masters of the tradition perform side by side with young artists who attempt to enrich and renew what are sometimes very old art forms.
The "Festival de l'Imaginaire" makes room for reflection as well. Colloquia, round tables and conference-demonstrations, on cultural themes or on phenomena from within societies, are also events which make new landmarks possible, enlarging our vision of the world.
